Mt Laurel Farmers Market

This is the 9th year for the Mt Laurel Farmers’ Market & Craft Fair.
The Market runs every Saturday June – Oct from 8:00 am until 12:00
The Market is located in the Town of Mt Laurel, on Manning Place (it fronts Highway 41)
They have up to 10 farmers every Saturday that sell fresh eggs, fresh cheeses, honey, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, Chilton county peaches, tomatoes, okra, squash, peas, beans, corn, etc. – all fresh and locally grown.
A brand new farm plans to participate in the Market this year, Jones Valley Urban Farm, (their gardens are on the site of the former Mt Laurel Organic Farm) – they grow only organic produce and fruits.

Several of the growers bring plants, and flowers.
Some of the favorite farms from Chilton and Shelby County will be back this year to participate, R & N Farms, Boozer Farms, Caver Farms, & Hooper Farm.
In addition there is usually any where from 10-15 craftsmen that bring their products to sell, hand painted wooden signs, hand carved wood items, wooden furniture, Picture frames, hand knitted items, handmade soap, paintings, photography, pottery, & glass items.
Very family friendly, with lots of activities for the children –
face painting, balloons, etc…
Feel free to bring your dog as long as it is on a leash and is social..
4 legged friends are welcome at the Market.
5 fabulous restaurants are open for lunch (2 of those serve breakfast)so come early! All of them have outdoor dining areas for those,still cool, summer mornings!
Ah yes! and there will be Fresh Squeezed Lemonade available from Granny's.

Spring is here at Dunnavant Square !

Along with everything getting greener and fuller by the day, we have all kinds of birds singing and flying about. In less than 5 minutes, I counted 16 birds in the wetland behind our model home.

Speaking of getting greener, Dunnavant Square is the greenest community Thornton Homes has built. From the hardy shake shingles on the exterior to the extra R38 insulation in the attic, there are numerous green features and building practices that are environmentally friendly. Earth Hour was a huge success and as important global climate change talks begin in Bonn today governments will be left in no doubt that the world is watching them after hundreds of millions of people switched off their lights for WWF’s Earth Hour – to call for urgent action on climate change.

On Saturday (28) at 8.30pm local time global icons including Sydney Opera House, the Acropolis, the Bird’s Nest stadium in China, the pyramids of Giza, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, and Big Ben were plunged into darkness for one hour for the largest global action on climate change ever.

3,943 cities and towns in more than 88 countries took part in Earth Hour, including 70 national capitals and 9 of the 10 most populated metropolises on the planet. 100 cities and towns in the UK, from London, Belfast, Cardiff, and Edinburgh to Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and Birmingham joined in alongside more than 1000 schools and nearly 700 businesses. UK landmarks which took part included: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, the Gherkin, Nelson’s Column in London, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the entire quayside in Newcastle, Stormont in Belfast and Edinburgh Castle. New York, Chicago , San Francisco were some of the major cities in the USA to take part.

Take a look at the renderings of our community shopping center. This is going to be a great addition to our community and compliment Mt Laurel's shopping at the same time. Which reminds me...starting in June, there will be a weekly Farmer's Market at Mt Laurel. Organic, fresh produce will be be featured but there will be lots more things to see and do. Stay tuned for more updates on this event.

Our Wetlands

The Red Maples that fill the wetlands are starting to bud. That means a wave of red you can easily see as you enter Dunnavant Square. Along with the Red buds of the Maples, the birds have begun to arrive. I've seen Mockingbirds, Finches and Robins. The arrival of the Robins is a sure sign that Spring is just around the corner. There is an occasional Hawk circling around, as well. There are more than Five acres of natural wetlands with streams running through them here, so there is an abundance of nature all around. Come out and enjoy!

With only 20 days to go, more than 900 cities are pledging to turn out their lights on March 28th to take action and make a commitment to helping preserve our Planet Earth.

Beautiful weather is on its way. The weatherman says it will be in the 70's. It is a perfect time to come out to Dunnavant Square. Visit our Model Home , check out the shops at Mt Laurel or take a walk on the trails that come right to our Community. Walk the dog , fly a kite or ride you bike. The possibilities are endless and the weather will be perfect. Our Town homes are in the middle of it all and best of all it cost nothing to take a look around. Daylight Saviings Time is here Again !

Just as sunflowers turn their heads to catch every sunbeam, so too have we discovered a simple way to get more from our sun.
Daylight Saving Time gives us the opportunity to enjoy sunny summer evenings by moving our clocks an hour forward in the spring.
Yet, the implementation of Daylight Saving Time has been fraught with controversy since Benjamin Franklin conceived of the idea. Even today, regions and countries routinely change their approaches to Daylight Saving Time. Some Folks have a difficult time getting used to the change. While other folks can't wait for the change so they will have more daylight in the afternoon for enjoying the outdoors.
This year in the United States the clocks jumped foreward at 2 AM on March 8th. No matter how you feel about this time change....one thing is for sure...we may as well make the best of it and enjoy it! Since you have that extra hour, put it to good use and come on out to Dunnavant Square. You will be glad you did !
